Rumour: Updated MacBook Airs To Launch Next Week

OK, this is getting a bit out of hand, we’ve had claims all this week of launch dates for Lion and new Macs, the most recent pointing to July 26 of this month and before that Lion was said to be launching today with along with updated Macs. But now a source claims next week it is!

These new MacBook Airs are said to have backlit keyboards, Thunderbolt, 128GB and 256GB SSD options, and updated Sandy Bridge processors. John Paczkowski from AllThingsD said these rumours were all incorrect and that the new MacBook Air is actually coming next week. I really don’t know if I put much credibility into any of these claims anymore but here’s what he had to say:

Still waiting for the MacBook Air refresh? You can put your credit card down for a bit. Although many speculated it would, Apple didn’t bring the new machines to market today. And it’s not going to do so tomorrow, either.

Several sources indicate that the company plans to uncrate the eagerly anticipated updates to its MacBook Air line late next week. “The rumor sites are off by a week,” one source said.

One thing is for certain: Lion is launching this month as per Apple. Next week is as good a guess as any for a hardware refresh including Lion preinstalled.
