iPhone 5 To Have 2 LED Flashes?

Digitimes is reporting the iPhone 5 will come with a dual LED flash.

Two flashes would significantly improve the overall quality of photos taken in low light conditions and potentially improve image quality by moving the LEDs further away from the camera lens on the iPhone. Digitimes explains that according to suppliers Apple seems to be moving away from using Philips as their main LCD supplier:

Recent market rumors have indicated that Apple’s iPhone 5 is likely to come with a dual-LED flash with Taiwan-based LED packaging firms Everlight Electronics, Edison Opto and Lite-On Technology being pinpointed as potential suppliers. All related companies have denied they are involved in the production of dual-LED flashes.

The rumors come amid market reports indicating that Apple reduced its orders for Lumileds high-power LED flash products from Philips recently and switched the orders for LED flashes to Taiwan makers.

Everlight and Lite-On have strengthened their deployments in the smartphone market for a while, with their products already being shipped to the supply chains of brand-name handset vendors, said industry sources.

Edison, which is specialized in the production of high-power LEDs, has begun shipping its LED flash products to branded handset vendors and therefore has a high chance of winning dual-LED flash orders from Apple, the sources noted.
