iOS 6.1 Beta 3 10B5117b Released

Apple has seeded iOS 6.1 beta 3 to developers. This beta carries a build of 10B5117b , up from the previous iOS 6.1 beta build of 10B5105c that was released on Nov. 12. Full details inside.

Update:

One notable feature that has been added to the newest Apple TV beta (Apple TV Software beta 2) is support for bluetooth keyboards! You can now fully control the Apple TV with any standard bluetooth keyboard. The feature can be enabled within the new “Bluetooth” section in the Settings menu. Read Me Before Downloading

  • iOS 6.1 beta 3 can be installed using over the air software update from devices that have iOS 6.1 beta 2 installed. Over the air software update can be initiated by choosing General > Software Update in Settings
  • Be sure to backup your devices using iTunes 10.7 or later through iCloud backup prior to installing iOS 6.1 beta. After installing iOS 6.1 beta 2, you can restore your device using either iTunes 10.7 or later through your iCloud backup.
  • To determine the proper download for your iPhone 5, click here. To determine the proper download for your iPad (4th generation) or iPad mini, click here.
  • This version of iOS is intended only for installation on development devices registered with Apple’s Developer Program. Attempting to install this version of iOS in an unauthorized manner could put your device in an unusable state, which could necessitate an out of warranty repair.
  • Devices updated to iOS 6.1 beta can not be restored to earlier versions of iOS. Registered development devices will be able to upgrade to future beta releases and the final iOS 6.1 software.
  • Xcode 4.6 Developer Preview cannot be used to submit apps to the iOS or Mac App Store. Continue to use the publicly released version of Xcode to compile and submit apps to the App Stores.
  • Xcode 4.6 Developer Preview and iOS 6.1 beta are pre-release software and are considered Apple Confidential Information and are subject to the terms of your iOS Developer Program License Agreement. Unauthorized distribution or disclosure of Apple Confidential Information is prohibited.

Introduction

iOS SDK 6.1 provides support for developing iOS apps, and it includes the complete set of Xcode tools, compilers, and frameworks for creating apps for iOS and OS X. These tools include the Xcode IDE and the Instruments analysis tool, among many others.

With this software you can develop apps for iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch running iOS 6.1. You can also test your apps using the included iOS Simulator, which supports iOS 6.1. iOS SDK 6.1 requires a Mac computer running OS X v10.7.4 (Lion) or later.

This version of iOS is intended for installation only on devices registered with Apple’s Developer Program. Attempting to install this version of iOS in an unauthorized manner could put your device in an unusable state.

Known Issues

  • FIXED: When browsing the iTunes Store, TV Shows is missing Networks, Genres, and Genius from the top menu.
  • FIXED: The Top Movies and Top TV Shows grids are missing the featured carousels, as well as several featured shelves.
  • FIXED: Podcasts is missing the Providers item from the top menu.
  • TVs and receivers that support only IT video format no longer allow RGB High to be selected in Settings > Audio & Video > HDMI Output. If such a TV or receiver was set to RGB High before this update, another value will be used instead.

FIXED: In iOS 6.1 beta 2, you will not be able to upgrade or downgrade your iCloud storage (5 GB is free). As a workaround, please use either the latest OS X or a device running iOS 6.0.

Language Support: Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese

Notes

  • FIXED: Typing quickly could result in incorrect input.
  • FIXED: Some Emoji cannot be entered using the Pinyin and Zhuyin keyboards.

Notes

  • FIXED: Zhuyin shortcuts containing words with first tone mark don’t work.
  • FIXED: When using the Zhuyin keyboard, certain input sequences become impossible to type.
  • FIXED: When using the Cangjie or Sucheng keyboard, the extended list often takes a long time to open.

iOS 6.0 introduced a five-row Thai keyboard and removed the previous four-row keyboard. In iOS 6.1, both the five-row and the four-row Thai keyboards are available.

Maps

Notes

In iOS 6.1, the Map Kit framework introduces the MKLocalSearchMKLocalSearchRequest, and MKLocalSearchResponse classes. Apps can use these classes to perform map-based searches for addresses and points of interest. The results are then delivered to the app as an array of map item objects. For information about these new classes, see Map Kit Framework Reference.

Passbook

Notes

As of iOS 6.1, the relevance behavior has changed for boarding passes that include both a relevant date and a relevant location. The date must match for these passes to be relevant. If both the date and location match, they are relevant for a longer window of time. You are encouraged to provide both pieces of information when they make sense for your passes.

Settings

Notes

In iOS 6.1, a new Reset Advertising Identifier button has been added to Advertising Settings. This button resets the Advertising Identifier so that future requests will return a different value.

Notes

This release does not support testing In-App Purchase in iOS Simulator. For apps that use this feature, please test on a device.

Social

Notes

  • Weibo shows up in the Settings app only if a Chinese keyboard is enabled.
  • When using the iOS 6.1 SDK on OS X v10.8 (Mountain Lion), if you use the iOS 5.0 or iOS 5.1 “Legacy SDK” in iOS Simulator, you will not be able to sign in to Twitter via the Settings pane andTwitter.framework will not work correctly. If you need to test Twitter features, you will need to choose either the iOS 6.1 or iOS 6.0 Simulator run destination or test with iOS 5.x on a device. These problems do not occur when running Simulator on OS X v10.7 (Lion).

Notes

NSString drawing additions and UILabel do not support NSTextAlignmentJustified or NSTextAlignmentNatural text alignments. Instead, use NSAttributedString drawing additions, which do support text alignments.
